Product FAQs

When choosing a roller blind in the Australian context, there are a few factors to consider.

Roller blinds come in various materials such as blockout, sunscreen, and light-filtering.

Blockout blinds offer maximum privacy, thermal insulation and light control.
Sunscreen blinds provide protection against harsh Australian UV rays, reduce sun glare, and filter light, offering complete daytime and limited nighttime privacy.
Light-filtering provide limited privacy during the day. Darker fabrics are easier to see through, while lighter fabrics, such as white, reflect more light and make it harder to see inside.

When choosing material, consider your requirements and preferences.

Measure your window accurately to ensure the roller blind fits appropriately. Consider whether you want a Recess Fit ("inside mount"/ within the window frame) or a Face Fit ("outside mount " /covering the entire window frame). Also, consider any obstructions like handles or window cranks, tiles, skirting boards, etc., that may affect the fit.

Roller blinds come in various colours and textures. Choose a style that complements your decor and enhances the room's aesthetic. Consider the colour scheme and how the back fabric of the blinds will look from the outside for the best appeal, furniture, and overall ambience when selecting. For more advice, we recommend reading this guide on How to Match Blinds to your wall

Decide on the type of operation you prefer. Roller blinds can be operated manually with a chain, or motorised for convenience. Motorised blinds allow for remote control or integration with smart home systems.

Determine your budget range and explore options within that range. Roller blinds can vary in price depending on the material, size, and additional features. Consider the long-term durability and quality of the blinds when making your decision.

Single Roller Blinds A single roller blind has one tube and is ideal when you only need your blind to perform a single function—such as blockout for complete privacy. They also pair beautifully with sheer curtains, giving you both functionality and a soft, stylish finish.

Double Roller Blinds A double roller blind features two tubes on a slimline double roller bracket, giving you the flexibility to combine fabrics for different purposes. For example, pair a blockout blind for complete privacy with a sunscreen or light-filtering blind for daytime comfort. This versatile design maximises functionality while keeping your window furnishings minimal and streamlined—and it’s a smart way to save on costs too.

Blockout curtains typically block out more heat than blinds when curtains are installed into pelmets or dropped ceilings, and curtain drapes are installed past the window opening on all four sides. This prevents heat from entering the room and cool air from escaping out the window because curtains can cover a larger surface area, not just the window opening.

Of course! You can mix and match up to 24 different fabric and material samples. Simply place your order here.

Follow our Linked Roller Blind how to measure guide to gain accurate measurements for your space.

No problem, you can do it yourself.

Remove your brackets If you have a pelmet, take it down before you start.

At the top of your blind, on the pin end side, rotate the clear plastic cog anti-clockwise. This will retract the pin away from the bracket, just enough for you to remove that side of the blind completely. Then take the opposite side of the blind out of the bracket.

Now you can use your cordless drill with the Phillips head drill bit to remove the screws, using the drill's reverse function. Then take down your brackets.

Do not use cleaning products to clean your blinds as they may damage the fabric or compromise the colour
General dusting is suitable and should be done regularly to maintain your blinds
For spot cleaning, remove as much dust as possible before wiping with a damp cloth

All you’ll need is some masking tape to fix this—just follow the steps below:

A. Unroll your blind all the way down, until you see the bare aluminium tube.

B. Cut a 5 cm strip of masking tape and stick it onto the aluminium tube, on the side you need the blind to go to. Roll your blind back up to check if it tracks straight.

C. Add a couple more layers of masking tape for thickness, until the blind rolls up straight. If this doesn't fix the problem, please contact us.

A damp cloth will do the job nicely. Just make sure to dab gently rather than rub hard, especially if you have blockout blinds.

Unfortunately, DIY Blinds doesn’t currently sell outdoor blinds.

Yes! Roller blinds are incredibly easy to install. It usually takes about 30 minutes and all you need is a pencil, a tape measure, a step ladder and a drill with a 3mm Phillips head bit. Read our full guide on how to install roller blinds.

Front Roll The fabric wraps over the roller tube, so the tube will not be visible from the front. Ideal for windows with obstructions, such as winders or latches, as the fabric rolls forward and clears them.
Back Roll The fabric rolls behind the roller tube and sits closer to the window, which means the tube will be visible. Please note: if you’ve chosen a blockout fabric with thermal backing, the white backing will also be visible along the tube (except for the ‘Kew’ range).
Ideal for keeping the blind/cloth as close to the glass as possible, helping to reduce light and maintain privacy.
